Kings & Queen Comedy Asia 7

Hold on to your ribs, the annual Kings and Queen of Comedy Asia returns with a giggle-inducing weekend on 30 September – 1 October 2016 at Esplanade Theatre. In its seventh year running, Singapore’'s longest running comedy festival promises another no-holds-barred laugh fest, where no topics are taboo or left untouched. Five renowned Asian stand-up acts from around the world and an Asian-at-heart Australian comedian, will unleash unstoppable, witty real talk for major LOL. Presented by The Comedy Club Asia, the Kings and Queen of Comedy Asia has become an annual staple event for Singaporeans over the past six years. It also has been the launch pad for many comedians with Asian heritage, to show the world that Asians have sass. At this year's festival, the six comedians from Australia, Malaysia, United States, United Kingdom and India, will unleash their best and most critical repertoire yet. Asia's Godfather of stand-up comedy Harith Iskandar will reappear with brand new material that will definitely have audiences in laughing fits. Iskandar's last performance at his home base saw him bringing the house down to a packed audience at the 9,000 seater Stadium Putra in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Shazia Mirza, the sharp British comedian known for her deadpan humour is taking a break from her world tour of her new show, "The Kardashians Made Me Do It" to join Kings and Queen. Expect dark humour as Mirza riffs on heavy subjects like islamophobia and terrorism, and laughs at her experiences of being a Muslim stand-up. Adding to Kings and Queen of Comedy Asia's star-studded lineup of performers is Hawaiian stand-up comedian and actor Paul Ogata, who is considered by his peers as one of the top five comedians in the world today and totally brought the house down at the Singapore Comedy Fringe Festival. Touted as one of the comedians everyone should know in 2016, the Kings and Queenwelcomes Malaysia’s rising star Kavin Jay to the fold as he makes his debut at the festival. Co-organizer of the festival, Jonathan Atherton rounds up the list of performers. The traveling comedian Atherton has been killing the stand-up game across Australia and South East Asia, and promises a full-out assault of humour this year. Atherton says, "Kings and Queen of Comedy Asia has placed Singapore on the world comedy circuit and comedy on the Singapore menu for seven years. It is the country's claim to fame for comedy, being Singapore's longest-running comedy show. This October new faces join old favourites in what promises to be the funniest highlight of the year. I can't think of anywhere I would rather be, nor have any other comics I would rather take to the stage with. Kings and Queens of Comedy Asia 7 will be epic!" The Comedy Club Asia most recently completed the successful five-day Singapore Comedy Fridge festival for audiences to discover a new wave of comedic acts from the region.
